Your Nutritional Therapy Consultation

The aim of Think Nutrition is to empower you to take responsibility for your health if you are recovering from illness or if you should want to make healthy changes to your diet. It is vital that you go at the pace that fits in with your lifestyle. Sometimes people try to do too much too soon. We recommend that you do what is manageable for you and fits into your time schedule.

Consultation Process

Once you have booked your consultation with Think Nutrition, you will be sent a confirmation by email with the date, time and location of consultation. This email will include a detailed questionnaire and a food diary which needs to be returned to Think Nutrition prior to your consultation. You will also be sent the terms of engagement. Please sign this document as it sets out the basis for the professional relationship between you and Think Nutrition.

This questionnaire gives us details about you, your current diet, your medical and family history as well as general information about your digestion and energy levels before your actual consultation. This information better helps me to prepare for your consultation in advance so more time can be spent in the consultation discussing your health concerns.

ALL INFORMATION PROVIDED IS TREATED AS STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL.

My priority is to provide a supportive non judgemental environment where you can ask whatever questions you want and feel totally at ease.

All of our dietary plans are tailored to suit individuals as no two people are the same. If your body is unique why shouldn’t your nutrition plan be? Think Nutrition also takes into account that people have different lifestyles dependent on work and family commitments.

How long does a consultation last?

The initial consultation will last between one and one and a half hours, during which time a case history is taken which covers the following areas: musculo skeletal system, digestive, skin, allergies and immunity, respiratory tract, urinary tract, Endocrine function, stress levels, pregnancy (where relevant), reproductive systems (male or female), family history, eating habits and lifestyle. You will also have time to ask any questions.

Based on all information received recommendations are agreed with you to gradually introduce changes to your eating habits. An explanation is provided as to possible causes of your health concern with advice on the plan to follow clearly explaining reasons for any changes. This will be explained in a manner that is easy to understand and follow.

Dietary guideline handouts will be given as well as meal plans for healthy eating. Support will also be given on how to cook wholesome meals. Suggestions will be given for breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner ideas with handouts for each.

Follow-up

A follow up consultation is generally arranged for approximately 4-6 weeks later which will last approximately 50 minutes. This follow up will see how you are getting on and any difficulties encountered. Telephone and email support is also available in between consultations for the first 2 weeks to resolve any queries you may have.

Laboratory Testing

Where appropriate Think Nutrition may recommend laboratory tests to determine levels of nutrients, hormones, digestive health, possible food allergies or intolerances. These tests can be invaluable in identifying what may contribute to your health issues and can result in faster and more successful outcomes. We work closely with the following organisations for testing:

Nutritional supplements

Nutritional supplements may be recommended to boost nutrient levels but the emphasis will be primarily on food. Any nutritional supplements recommended as part of your programme will be checked against any medications you are taking to ensure there are no interactions. Please note nutritional supplements and laboratory tests are optional but are in addition to the consultation fee and this will be clearly explained at the consultation.

What do I need to bring to a consultation?

  • Blood test results (ie. cholesterol, blood pressure, thyroid etc.)
  • Details of any medication you are currently taking, nutritional supplements and/or herbal remedies.
  • It is also helpful to bring a record of diet over 5-7 days noting any symptoms like headaches, bloating, or mood swings.

How much is a consultation?

First Consultation                 1.5 hours                    €80

Follow-up                              50 minutes                 €50

Consultations can be done on Zoom.

How many consultations will I need?

This will depend on the health problem and how long you have been suffering symptoms. Usually people notice improvements within 2-3 months. The average number of consultations is 3 spread over 12 weeks. How motivated you are to get well and make changes will affect the number of visits you need.

Stress Management

It should not be underestimated how stressed people are nowadays so at Think Nutrition we strongly advise all clients that a nutritional plan or changes to diet should incorporate a stress management plan. We also offer advice in this area. Nutritional therapy can help all ages and can help a wide range of health conditions.
